The only difference is that the rough is grown in a laboratory versus by nature over time. These gems have essentially the same optical, physical and chemical properties as natural Alexandrite.
  • The Cost of Natural Alexandrite is over $500 a carat and can cost over $2,000 a carat for a nice piece. And is not normally cut in Calibrated sizes, since the cutter will maximize their yield during cutting.
