Amethyst-Laboratory Grown: Our has the all of the same characteristics of natural Amethyst. In fact when this was tested at GIA they could not determine whether it was a natural or lab gemstone. amethyst is made to imitate the best quality amethyst. Its chemical and physical properties are so similar to that of natural amethyst that it can not be differentiated with absolute certainty without advanced gemnological testing (which is often cost-prohibitive). There is one test based on "Brazil law twinning" (a form of quartz twinning where right and left hand quartz structures are combined in a single crystal) which can be used to identify synthetic amethyst rather easily. It is possible to synthesize twinned amethyst, but this type is not available in large quantities in the market.

  • Synthetic-Lab Amethyst is the same violet to purple color as its natural counterpart. Few other synthetic or "created" gemstones so closely emulate their natural counterparts as synthetic amethyst does natural amethyst
  • What is the story behind this gemstone?: Synthetic quartz has been around for decades. In fact it is the synthetic quartz industry that made quartz watch movements possible. The sad part about this gem material is what it has done to the market for fine quality, natural amethyst. The synthetic so closely emulates the natural, and is so very difficult to distinguish from the natural, that market prices have fallen dramatically for amethyst due to lack of consumer confidence of what they are buying. In fact, even the GIA has difficulty in separating synthetic amethyst from natural without some very high tech equipment, so you know it is very, very good.
  • We grade each gemstone for Color, Clarity, cut, and Carat weight. We try to define / analysis each gemstone and photo taken (all photo are of the gemstone itself not a general stone photo) to help you make a better decision.

If there is a defect not discernible in the pictures, it will be included in the text. , Please keep in mind that the prismatic reflective properties of gems will often produce varying degrees of color and what colors you see, someone else may not. If there is a concern or doubt, please ask prior to purchase. Remember that color is a very tricky thing to transmit electronically. There are many variables, including lighting, background, physical filters, digital filters, the capabilities of the monitor on which the image is displayed, and the color perception of the viewer.
