Corundum, except for red can be classified as sapphires. The main advantage of sapphires is its hardness, durability, and brilliance. It comes in many colors pink, yellow, blue, green, & etc. Sapphire, part of the corundum family, comes in every color of the rainbow - pink, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange - with the exception of red -- which is a ruby.
